Analytical Comparison

Elizabeth Acevedo's "My heart is a Hand" is a metaphorical poem that illustrates the two things that are very similar to each other. My understanding from her poem is that she describes her hand like a heart that has no support to be held onto. A heart that has no other heart to be attached to can only grab onto itself. A hand that has no other hand to grab can only tighten its fingers into a fist. Acevedo's poem conveyed emotion in which you can understand that there might have been some feeling of loneliness in the past or currently experiencing.

My poem is modeled after Elizabeth Acevedo's poem in which I relate on thing to another with similar characteristics and relate it to my life in a meaningful way. In my poem, I compare my brain to a toolbox with the same metaphoric style. I thought for a while of what I can relate metaphorically eventually, the idea came to me and thought about my brain. My brain holds all the abilities and skills that I'll need throughout my life like a toolbox holds all the tools a repairman will need to get the job done. My poem might not have conveyed the same emotion as Acevedo's poem did but it does relate to a big part of my life.

After writing my poem I can see the hidden complexities that lie behind an emotional poem like "My Heart is a Hand". Her poem made me want to know the story behind the poem.

My Brain is a Toolbox (My Poem)

My brain is a toolbox
That helps get the work done
My tools are the skills that I have
Each tool has its own purpose
Without my tools, I'd lost
They're essential to my success
I am proud of my tools
Everywhere I go my tools follow
One thing to never forget is that
Tools are only good as the user

Visual

This image is a visual representation of the metaphor I've written about in my poem. The image would be how I imagine all the tools and skills that I have to look inside my mind. Whenever I'm in school or have to complete a certain task my brain goes through a process of choosing what tool to use in the given situation I find myself in. My brain is an expandable toolbox because unlike a physical toolbox I can learn many things and use it to make my life easier. The more abilities you have the more tools you can use.

When you're younger a lot of things can seem difficult to do and that's because you don't have the tools yet to be able to complete the task. You can such tools at school or by an instructor, that's the beauty of our brain. Our brain is a very important toolbox that will help throughout our entire life.

This ted talk explains why the human brain makes us the most intelligent beings in the world. Even though our brain is nothing special as described in the Ted Talk, our brain does have neurons than any other primate and that gives the ability to do more with our brain. With our brain, there are many tools that we can obtain just by studying what not many people seem to put effort into.

During this quartine, we have more time than normal and we can use this time to learn new stuff. Such as coding, video editing, etc. Even if it's just a hobby it's a skill that can be useful. Were gaining more knowledge and we never truly stop learning. The way we use our knowledge depends on how successful we want to be. Everybody has potential that is hidden we just need to know how to unlock it.

Quote

This quote is stated by one of the richest men in the world. Jeff Bezos describes the brain as an incredible pattern-matching machine. When the tools from the brain are being used success can come even though it may not be easy. The brain of Albert Einstein was studied to see what made him such a genius. There are still mysteries looked within the brain that we still haven't discovered yet with our many centuries of research.

Jeff Bezos along with his ex-wife used their toolbox so efficiently that success was inevitably going to happen from them. His early failure didn't discourage him which only made him be in a  mindset to keep on trying until he achieved what he was aiming for. What we know Jeff Bezos for today is for being the CEO and founder of Amazon, a company that was deemed to fail in its early days.

Our Brain

It may be a meme but its true, scientists that named this organ have a brain just you and me and that shows how powerful our brain is. With our brain, we can learn about the world that surrounds. Our knowledge can keep on expanding without reaching a limit like a hard drive.

History shows how much we evolved as a civilization and that's because we learned to use our tools from the brain to create physical tools to help us build a city with buildings, etc. Just imagine a world where people didn't bother to use their brain where would be. We might not be as evolved as were are today and I wouldn't be able to type this response. The more I read about the more conscious I am about using my knowledge wisely. If I just stopped with my studies my toolbox won't get any bigger and my knowledge might even decrease.
